Elizabeth Warren - Talking Tour Statements

Summary

In July of 2012, President Obama made remarks during a campaign speech that created a controversy concerning his economic views. In those remarks, the President asserted that if you built a small business or a medium company that you owed that success to the remaining people who assisted in its functions. This could include those who built the roads, teachers who taught the students who you hired later, or the local cops and fire fighters.

After these remarks, video surfaced that was put out by a pro-Warren fan in which she gives a speech during a talking tour that echoes those sentiments and uses much of the same language.

(Speaking on the debt crisis)

My favorite part of looking at this hole ... We got in this hole ... One bill ... One trillion dollars on tax cuts for the rich under George Bush. We got into this hole .. two trillion dollars on two wars that we put on a credit card for our children and grandchildren to pay off. And we got into this hole one trillion dollars on a Medicare drug program that A) was not paid for and B) was expensive than it needed to be because it was a giveaway to the drug companies.

So we have ... I mean, that's 4 trillion right there. So part of the way that you fix this problem is .. like don't do those things.

(Speaking on Fair Taxation)

I hear all this "Ahh well, this is class warfare, this is whatever" No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there; good for you. But I want to be clear: You moved your goods on the roads that the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate.

You were safe in your factory because of police force and fire fighters that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that maurading bands would come and seize everything at your factory and hire someone to protect against this because of the work the rest of us did.

Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something significant or a great idea. God Bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is that you take a hunk of that and pay if forward for the next kid that comes along.
