I see new beginnings as opportunities, and I beleive in opportunity. My grandmother drove a wagon in the land rush to settle territory out west. It was 1889, she was 15 years old and she had her brothers and sisters in the back of the wagon. Her mother had died and her father had ridden ahead on horseback to find land near water. She lived to be 94, to see her youngest grandchild, that's me, graduate from college. A public university, and start teaching in a public elementary school. She thought that was just about as good as it got.
My grandmother, to me, is a story about opportunity. For my grandmother, opportunity was about land, but it was also very much about a growing world.
