Orlando, FL – U.S. Senate Republican candidate Marco Rubio today will highlight a series of reforms he will advocate in Washington to help restore budgetary discipline, create jobs and strengthen families. Addressing the Family Policy Council today, Rubio will outline measures to stop Washington’s misspending and prevent its damaging consequences on working families.
“Especially in the past year and a half, Washington’s spending binges have failed to create the promised jobs bonanza while leaving a legacy of debt for our children. This fall, Floridians will send a resounding message to change course, but then the hard work will begin of making sure the mountains of debt from this Democrat Congress are not inherited by our children.
“This will not only require us to stand up to this agenda and undo the damage. It will also be our responsibility to implement policies that put America on a responsible and sustainable fiscal path,” added Rubio.
Among the measures outlined, Rubio believes that we need to permanently end the marriage tax penalty, make the increased child tax credit permanent and permanently eliminate the death tax. Furthermore, to protect future generations from being burdened by even more debt, Rubio outlined steps to freeze non-defense, non-veteran discretionary spending, repeal the stimulus and use that money toward deficit reduction, end the bailout fund and ban earmarks.
As the U.S. Senate looks forward to confirmation hearings with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, Rubio also noted the importance of judges and judicial philosophy.
“I will continue to be a voice for not only winning hearts and minds on life issues but also to support pro-life policies, including well-qualified judicial nominees who will interpret the laws of our land, not establish new policy from the bench,” said Rubio. “My judicial philosophy is clear and it is consistent: I will only support judges who have demonstrated a convincing record of respect for the rule of law and respect for the Constitution.”
