Energy & Resources
Dr. Dan Benishek supports increasing America’s domestic energy supplies to lower fuel prices, decrease our dependence on foreign oil, and grow America’s economy. Like many in Northern Michigan, Dr. Benishek is deeply concerned with high gasoline prices and fears these high prices will take more money out of the pockets of hard working Michigan families and businesses.
Dr. Benishek believes America needs a pro-growth energy policy that responsibly increases the production of oil, natural gas, coal and nuclear power, along with alternative sources of energy. He is confident that we can increase America’s energy supply to lower fuel prices without endangering our nation’s environment.
I believe the best way to lower gasoline prices, decrease our dependence on foreign sources of oil, and grow America’s economy, is to responsibly increase our domestic production of energy. — Dr. Dan Benishek
Since coming to Congress in 2011, Dr. Benishek has supported legislation that increases America’s energy production by lifting the de facto moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
Dr. Benishek has also been a strong supporter of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which he believes would increase the energy supply while simultaneously creating good paying union jobs. He was very disappointed that the Obama Administration chose to block the Keystone Pipeline from being constructed and will continue fighting in the House of Representatives for its creation.
Dr. Benishek knows that sky-high gas and energy prices are a clear threat to Northern Michigan families. He will continue working to enact federal policy that will increase America’s energy production and lower fuel costs at Northern Michigan gas prices.

· Energy Independence. Radical environmentalism has rendered energy development next to impossible. While we must be good stewards of the earth, God gave us this earth and all its resources for our needs. America has huge coal, natural gas and oil reserves. We need to responsibly tap into these reserves and stop relying on other nations to supply our energy. In addition, we need to vigorously expand our use of nuclear power as a safe, clean and efficient source of energy.
