Building New Jersey’s Energy Industry

The Challenge

New Jersey was once a leader in manufacturing, and as the well-known tag line went, “Trenton makes, the world takes.” Today, the industries that once made New Jersey no longer exist and it shows in our unemployment rate, the number of businesses that have left our state, and the lack of good-paying jobs. The current unemployment rate is hovering around 10% and New Jersey has lost 135,100 jobs overall and 34,000 manufacturing jobs in the last year alone. As a result, many middle-class workers have been forced to take lower paid paying jobs without benefits.

The Solution

Energy as an industry is an opportunity to recover the good-paying, middle-class jobs that have been lost by focusing on production. As the country and the rest of the world makes renewable energy a priority, New Jersey has an opportunity and ability to once again become a leader of industry.

Protecting New Jersey's Environment

The Challenge

In the past, the state of New Jersey has been unable to establish consistent and effective policies to deliver both environmental and economic progress. Significant changes in policies and practices are urgently needed to 1) accelerate improvements to the environment; 2) remove unnecessary obstacles to economic growth; and 3) more effectively manage limited fiscal and human resources.

The Solution

New Jersey will once again be competitive and attractive to business investment, while at the same time improve air and water quality, incentivize the cleanup of contaminated sites, and better manage the State’s natural resources.

Governor Christie’s Environmental policies are built around six key elements:

• Dedicate the Department of Environmental Protection to its core mission

• Streamline the permitting process

• Protect New Jersey’s natural resources and Open Space

• Strongly enforce clean water and ocean pollution laws

• Prioritize the efficient remediation of contaminated sites

• Make New Jersey the leader in renewable energy
