I call them Mugatu moments. They are those times when you feel like you or everyone around you must be taking crazy pills. How else can you explain the fact the President of the United of the United States can repeatedly give speeches where he routinely contradicts himself and is routinely cheered for these blaring contradictions. He decries the use of scare tactics and then goes through a litany of events that will take place if his reform package isn't passed. These events range from "skyrocketing" insurance premiums to the continuing loss of health insurance for 14,000 Americans a day, and on through the collapse of small businesses.
When he speaks about medicare, he talks about insolvency and the corresponding loss of benefits in one speech and then derides those who he claims speak about cutting medicaid in another, repeating several times "that will not happen on my watch".
The video below shows a compilation of moments from the health care rallies that took place this summer. It shows the President routinely laying out the devastation that will occur if his plans are not enacted and also shows him decrying the use of scare tactics.
