Mike Lee favors term limits. He has spoken about this often and has cited the seniority system in use in the Senate as one of the reasons that term limits is necessary as constituents are threatened with a loss of power by voting against an incumbent.

The runaway growth of the federal government will continue as long as we retain a system that assures the existence of lifetime politicians. A career member of Congress inevitably will come to believe that that body has the answer to all social problems. The Constitution should be amended to limit service in each house of Congress to 12 years.

Resolution on Term Limits

In February of 2012, the Senate voted on a resolution to express the sense of the Senate that the Constitution should be amended to include term limits. No specific limits were set and the resolution failed 24-75 with almost all Democrats opposed to it and only about half of the Republicans supporting it. Mike Lee voted in favor of the resolution expressing term limits.
