Summary

Prior to the election of President Obama, Senator Conryn was supportive, but relatively quiet about US involvement in Afghanistan. Since that time, Senator Cornyn has expressed support for President Obama's plans to send additional troops to meet the requests of generals on the ground. When President Obama announced a strategy to send a surge of troops to Afghanistan, Senator Cornyn stated that the measure was a step forward. He commended the President for being committed to success in Afghanistan.
