Curt Cleaver - Taxes
Wedgewood Church Debate
In October of 2011, Curt Cleaver participated in the debate at the Wedgewood church. When asked to describe his views, he notes his support for an across the board 10% tax.
Well, I am for a flat tax. Obviously, what we've been doing is not correct. I am for a 10% personal tax and a 10% corporate tax. The Lord asks for a tenth, I believe that a tenth is enough for the government. 51% are not paying taxes right not. 51% that are filing for income taxes are not paying taxes. A flat tax would solve that problem.

REFORM OUR TAX SYSTEM
We cannot have fiscal responsibility without reforming our tax system. We need taxes to cover the cost of our military and other government oversight, however taxing middle-income people to the point where nearly 30% of their income is removed from their paycheck is unconscionable.
I propose a 10% tax, across the board with no deductions. This eliminates the gift, inheritance and estate taxes as well as reduces the role of the IRS. It lessens the amount of paperwork, includes everyone, and prevents the red-tape system we currently have.
According to the Wall Street Journal, we have more families where at least one person receives government benefits than any time in history. At the same time, we have more whose wages are so low they pay no taxes. With tax reform, everyone pays at least something. Here’s an article about our entitlement problem, for more information.
What about all of the IRS workers? This will give them the opportunity to take advantage of a free-enterprise system and potentially build their own small business.
