Sharron Angle on Education

Last Updated : Jun 15, 2010

Summary

Sharron Angle states that she believes that the U.S. Department of Education should be eliminated.  She has cited that the local approach had long yielded greater academic results before the Department of Education was created in 1979. She claims the Department of Education is "unconstitutional" and should not be involved in dictating educational standards from such a distant location as Washington, D.C.

She is opposed to No Child Left Behind stating that it has hamstrung teachers with testing and regulation.

She supports vouchers and charter schools.

She has also claimed, "The best education is the education that is controlled closest to the local level as possible."
