South Carolina Debate

On May 5, 2011 Herman Cain participated in the Republican debate in South Carolina. He speaks about Libya and Syria and states that the actions of the President were incorrect in both cases. He states that in Libya, President Obama first supported Ghaddaffi and then later supported the rebels, creating confusion as to the objective there.

Twitter Debate

In July of 2011, Herman Cain participated in the Republican twitter debate. He stated in that debate that he opposed US intervention into Libya.

I've said many times before that US intervention in Lybia is inappropriate and wrong. The US does not belong in this war. Pres. Obama did not make it clear what our mission was in Libya, what the American interests were or what victory looks like. we cannot risk our treasury or national treasures (brave men & women in uniform) without knowing those answers.

New Hampshire Debate

In August of 2011, Herman Cain participated in the Republican debate in New Hampshire. He was asked about Libya and stated that the situation there was a mess.

KING: Mr. Cain, take 30 seconds, please. People might say he's a businessman. He has no experience in government. How would you look at your responsibilities, draw that line, vital U.S. national interests as commander in chief?

CAIN: It starts with making sure we understand the problem, which I don't think we did. We didn't have the intelligence. Number two, is it in the vital interest of the United States of America? If the answer is no, then we don't go any further. If it's not in the vital interest of America, To paraphrase my grandmother, with the situation in Libya and many of these other situations, they're not simple situations. It's a mess. It's just an absolute mess.

And there's more that we don't know than we do know, so it will be very difficult to know exactly what we do until, like others have said, we learn from the commanders in the field.
