Herman Cain - Refusal to Appoint a Muslim Judge
Think Progress Interview
On March 26, 2011 Mr. Cain was interviewed by Think Progress and asked again about his statements concerning the hiring or appointing a muslim as a judge. Mr. Cain cites problems in Europe where Sharia law has been used as justification for rulings and the slow creep of Islamic law into those nations and the US. Mr. Cain also states that the freedom of religion in the US allows muslims to practice their religion, but not to enforce that religion on others or use it as justification to usurp or supersede US law.
Fox News Interview
On March 28, 2011 Herman Cain appeared on Fox News and discussed his statements and asserts that many muslims in the US are not fully committed to the US and the Constitution. He states that an Islamic person's religion may create a conflict between US law and the desire to promote their religion and enforce Sharia law.
When asked if he would rule out any Islamic person even if they swore to uphold US law over Sharia law, Mr Cain states that he would not rule out the appointment of that person to his administration.
