Support for Surge in Afghanistan

In December of 2009, Congressman Green released a press statement noting his support for President Obama's decision to send additional troops to Afghanistan.

Our recommitment to war in Afghanistan will provide the Afghan government and its people with the opportunity to shape their country’s future. By strengthening the capacity of their security forces, the U.S. can begin to transfer responsibility to the Afghans and bring our troops home.

Removing Troops from Afghanistan

In March of 2011, the House voted on a resolution to require the removal of troops from Afghanistan pursuant to the War Powers Resolution. The measure failed 96-321. Al Green voted against the resolution to remove the troops from Afghanistan.
