Joe Sestak on The Second Amendment

Last Updated : Jul 01, 2010

 Summary

Congressman Sestak supports gun control and favors an assault weapons ban.  He has a 100% rating from the pro gun control group The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, and an F rating from the National Rifle Association.

Assault Weapons ban

In August of 2009, Congressman Sestak called for a re-instatement of the assault weapons ban in response to a shooting at a local gym.

This recent incident recommits us to reinstitute the assault weapons ban originally instituted in 1994. I have continuously pushed for this ban to be reinstituted since I came to Congress in 2007, including just last year when I cosponsored The Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Act.

The senseless shootings of so many innocent victims during an aerobics class in Allegheny County, and of the three police officers in Pittsburgh this past April, are heartbreaking reminders that we must immediately address the loss of the commonsense ban earlier this decade.

Sponsored and Cosponsored Legislation

Session-110; Bill Number-H R 1022; Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007 - Cosponsor

To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.
