HEALTH CARE

“I have supported Todd since I first met with him and discussed issues facing the health care community. Todd has fresh ideas and will be an excellent leader for us in Washington. Todd has my vote and I would ask those concerned with the future of health care in America to support him as well.” – Dr. Paul Johnson, ENT Associates of Southern Indiana

Health care is a very complex issue but I would support two quick fixes that would see immediate results in the marketplace which would result in better coverage for consumers.

The United States has the best health care in the world, but our delivery of that health care needs to be fixed. We can immediately address this by allowing insurance plans to be purchased across state lines and to put strict tort reform in place to limit the cost of malpractice insurance to doctors and hospitals.

Voting Record

Tort Reform

In March of 2012, the House voted on HR 5, also know as the Help Efficient, Accessible, Low Cost, Timely Healthcare (HEALTH) Act of 2011. This legislation would have set a statute of limitations of three years after the date of manifestation of an injury or one year after the claimant discovers the injury for a lawsuit, made each party liable only for the amount of damages directly proportional to such party's percentage of responsibility, allowed the court to restrict the payment of attorney contingency fees, authorized punitive damages only where there is clear and convincing evidence that a person acted with malicious intent to injure the claimant, limited punitive damages to $500,000, limited noneconomic damages to $250,000, and denied punitive damages in the case of products approved, cleared, or licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), or otherwise considered in compliance with FDA standards. Todd Young voted in favor of the HEALTH Act.
