Rick Perry - The Federal Reserve

Last Updated: Sep 13, 2011

Summary

Governor Perry has been largely silent concerning the Federal Reserve throughout his career. After entering the Presidential race, Governor Perry referred to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke as performing actions near treason when he instigated quatitative easing programs. He refused to back down from these statements.

Almost Treasonous

While speaking at a campaign rally in Iowa, Governor Perry refered to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke as performing actions that were nearly treasonous if he were to push for another rounds of quantitative easing.

If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I dunno what y'all would do to him in Iowa but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas. Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous – or treasonous in my opinion,

Politics and Eggs

On August 17, 2011 Governor Perry was speaking at a "Politics and Eggs" breakfast in New Hampshire and discussed his previous comments on the federal reserve. He also stated that transparency was needed to ensure the America people that their intentions were sincere.

I got in trouble talking about the federal reserve yesterday. I got lectured about that yesterday, so ... I think that there have been a number of candidates that have stood up over the coarse of the months, and really questioned the transparency of the federal reserve. And absolutely, whether you're the governor of a state, or the President of the United States, whether you're the head of the agency or an independant branch of government ... or not a branch of government, but an agency of government, like the federal reserve ... they should open their books up, they should be transparent so that the people of the United States know what they're doing, how they're doing it. Frankly, I think that ... the mistrust that is there today ... if they would simply open up and be transparent with the American people, I think that it would go a long way towards finding out whether or not there is some activities that are improper or that they have been handling themselves quite well. But until they do that, I think that there will continue to be questions about their activity and about what their true goal is for the United States.

TEA Party Debate

In September of 2011, Governor Perry participated in the TEA Party debate and was asked about the federal reserve. He stated that he stood by his statements on that using the Federal Reserve to cover bad economic policy could be treasonous.
