Bill White on The Economy

Last Updated : Oct 15, 2010

Summary

Mayor White has stated that he would have voted against the 2009 stimulus plan.

Opposition to Stimulus

In 2010, Mayor White believed that Senator Hutchison would resign from the Senate to run for Governor of Texas. He began campaigning in anticipation of seeking that vacant seat. In that campaigning, he spoke to the San Marcos area Democrats and stated that he would not have voted for the Stimulus, which had recently passed Congress.

White said he would have voted against the recently-approved federal stimulus package, which he compared to a tsunami. He condemned federal economic policies, which, he said, encourage people to "spend everything" rather than to save.
