2009 Health Care Reform Legislation

In an interview on Washington Unplugged in March of 2010, Mayor White was asked about the 2009 health care reform legislation and the lawsuit that Texas was pursuing to have the mandate portion of the law ruled unconstitutional. Mayor White stated that the states impose mandates for auto insurance and other items and inferred that the lawsuit against a federal mandate for health insurance would be a waste of resources. He stated that he was against anything that would lead to more borrowing for the federal government which indicates that he may believe that the plan is not deficit neutral.
