John Hoeven on Abortion

Last Updated : Jul 17, 2010

John Hoeven is Pro-life. As Governor, he has signed legislation that would allow a women to see an ultrasound of the fetus prior to an abortion, legislation that would require that the mother be made aware that she is ending a unique human life prior to an abortion, and legislation to outlaw abortions in the future should a sympathetic supreme court come into play.

N.D. Abortion Legislation

In May of 2009, Governor Hoeven singed two anti-abortion laws into affect in the state of North Dakota. One law allows a woman to view a sonogram prior to receiving an abortion and the other requires that the woman be made aware that they are ending a unique human life prior to receiving an abortion. These laws are discussed in a LifeNews article.

N.D. Ban on Abortion

In April of 2007, Governor Hoeven signed legislation that will outlaw abortion in the future except in the case of rape or incest. The law was in response to a supreme court ruling that upheld the ban on partial-birth abortions. The law will remain dormant until a future supreme court becomes friendly to such a measure and then it will go into affect. The Bismark Tribune has covered the legislation.
