Mitt Romney on Internet Freedom and Security
South Carolina Debate
In January of 2012, Governor Romney participated in the South Carolina Presidential Debate as part of the 2012 election. In that debate, he stated his opposition to the SOPA legislation and asserted that government cannot harm business in an effort to reign in these sorts of crime.
The law as written is far too intrusive, far too expansive, far too threatening to freedom of speech and movement of information across the Internet. It would have a potentially depressing impact on one of the fastest growing industries in America, which is the Internet and all those industries connected to it.
