STRENGTHENING NATIONAL DEFENSE
America has always led in expanding freedom and democracy across the world. I believe that we need a foreign policy that is firmly rooted in this proud tradition and ready to confront the new challenges of the 21st century. We need a President who is free to lead our friends and allies with clear conviction and unparalleled strength.
We should redouble our efforts on nuclear non-proliferation, particularly in the Middle East. I support increasing sanctions on Iran to further isolate its oppressive government and I would work to promote the democratic movement sweeping across the region. Our mission in Iraq and Afghanistan must be concluded responsibly, but I oppose telegraphing to the enemy the time and place when we will leave the battlefield.
The threats to our national interests are many. I support a smart, robust military stance that sets clear, achievable objectives and provides the very best resources to those who put themselves in harm’s way in our defense. Ours is a great nation worth fighting for.
