Buddy Roemer - The Economy
Summary
Governor Roemer believes that the burden of the federal government on businesses should be as small as possible and that reducing this burden will help stimulate the economy. He notes that an overly complex tax code favors large businesses with the means to navigate those tax codes.
Although he has proposed no specific economic plan, Governor Roemer has outlined steps that he would take to address the economy. These steps include tax reform, energy independence and regulation reform.

South Carolina Debate
In May of 2011, Governor Roemer held a mock debate to counter the South Carolina GOP debate. He speaks about the need to reform to the tax code to help small businesses by making it simpler. In a second question, Governor Roemer outlines his plan to stimulate the economy. This plan includes the previously mentioned tax reform, no tax on the first $100,000 of income, take regulations back to 2008 levels, energy independence with a tariff on middle-eastern oil, and removal of waste from the federal government.
New Hampshire Debate
In June of 2011, Governor Roemer held a debate style rally similar to the New Hampshire debate. In one question, he again discusses the influence of special interests on scrubbing the budget and reforming the tax code. He notes again that the tax code needs to be reformed and simplified.
In a second debate question, Governor Roemer discusses the need to bring back manufacturing jobs and how he would accomplish this task. He notes that he would increase drilling to create energy independence and he would put up barriers to foreign oil in the form of tariffs.
Grace Church Speech
In May of 2011, Governor Roemer spoke at Grace Church in Waukee, Lousiana. He stated that he would lower the deficit by 1% of GDP per month and alter social security to address the economy.
