Buddy Roemer - Health Care
Summary
Governor Roemer views the current health care system as a corruption of the true market due to government involvement in the health care system. For Medicare and Medicaid, Governor Roemer has stated that the Paul Ryan plan is a good starting place to reduce the costs of Medicare and Medicaid. He opposed Obamacare and supports it's repeal. He referred to it as a government takeover of health care.
To address health care costs, Governor Roemer supports:
- Tort reform
- Insurance Reform
- Purchasing insurance across state lines
South Carolina Debate
In May of 2011, Governor Roemer held a mock debate to discuss items in a similar format to the South Carolina Debate. Governor Roemer states that health care reform will not happen because Washington is on the take from big health care companies. He calls for the repeal of Obamacare and the implementation of something that does not involve government run plans.
In a second question, Governor Roemer supports tort reform, competition in pharmaceutical products, and purchasing health care across state lines.
New Hampshire Debate

REPEALING OBAMACARE
We face a crisis in our nation’s healthcare system. Unfortunately President Obama and the liberal Democrats’ healthcare legislation made things worse, not better. I believe that the law is unconstitutional and will work to repeal and replace it with a better plan that decreases costs and expands access to the best healthcare system in the world.
Real healthcare reform needs to directly confront the real factors that are driving costs up for both patients and providers. I support giving consumers the choice to purchase healthcare insurance across state lines as well as meaningful tort reform that will discourage frivolous lawsuits. A government takeover of healthcare is not the solution.
