SECURING ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
Our future security and prosperity demands that we become less dependent upon foreign sources of energy. I believe we can be energy independent by the end of this decade if we utilize domestic production, encourage conservation and promote innovation. A consumer, market-based approach should include all options, including oil, clean coal, natural gas, nuclear, solar, hydroelectric, wind and geothermal sources of energy.
The federal government today actively discourages our energy independence by limiting when and where we can secure domestic sources of energy. That is why I have called for the elimination of the Department of Energy and an acceleration in the approval process of pending permits. We can become energy independent, reduce government spending and create jobs here at home.
