States' Rights
The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." This means that where the Constitution is silent in regard to the powers of the federal government, state governments are free to make their own laws and exercise their own discretion.

I believe the Tenth Amendment establishes limits on the federal government, which have not been enforced. As Governor, I will defend the sovereignty of the State of Alabama, and I will support our right govern ourselves under our own laws and to make our own decisions without federal interference. I also will ensure that the power of the state does not itself become over-reaching and hinder the ability of Alabama's city and county governments to operated effectively and fairly.
