The Social Contract
In September of 2011, Elizabeth Warren was beginning her Senate campaign when a supporter made a tape that he may be regretting now. I shows party member Warren discusssing her beliefs that business owners are successful in part because of the efforts of teachers and road builders and police and fire fighters and everyone else whom Mrs Warren is apparenlty unaware do not work for free.
The video is embedded below, and the transcript is in the controversy writeup for Mrs Warren.
Although the video may not look as bad to Massachusetts citizens, to those of us outside of the Soviet Establishment of North Eastern States, it won't play well. Mrs Warren talks about the "social contract" in which one person is obligated to pay it forward to future generations. While the words themselves aren't great, the tone of the discussion is bad. Mrs Warren appears angry in the video and somewhat vengeful at successful people for apparent exploitation of workers.
The video reminded me of Darth Vader's discussion with Lando Calrissian. "I am altering the deal, pray that I don't alter it any further." I am left wondering how much this social contract will be altered once Mrs Warren is in office and President Obama is elected to a second term.
