Title : Expressing the sense of Congress that the Government of the People's Republic of China should cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

 

SUMMARY AS OF:
7/24/2002--Passed House amended.    (There is 1 other summary) Calls for: (1) the Government of the People's Republic of China to cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners; and (2) such Government's representatives in the United States to cease their harassment of U.S. citizens and residents s who practice Falun Gong and to cease their attempts to pressure State and local officials to refuse or withdraw support for the Falun Gong and its practitioners.Calls for the U.S. Government to urge the Chinese Government to: (1) release from detention all Falun Gong practitioners and end the torture and other cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatment of such practitioners and other prisoners of conscience; and (2) abide by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by allowing Falun Gong practitioners to pursue their personal beliefs.Calls on the U.S. Government to: (1) investigate allegations of illegal activities of the Chinese Government and its representatives and agents in the United States, including the harassment of U.S. citizens and residents who practice Falun Gong and of State and local officials who support it; and (2) take appropriate action, including enforcement of the immigration laws, against any such representatives or agents who engage in such illegal activities.
