Description of Election

Primary Election

The Democratic side of the primary was uneventful, with the party throwing all of its support behind former Governor Tim Kaine. Despite support from the state population for a new candidate on the Republican side, former Senator and Governor George Allen was able to easily win the party nomination with the support of the party.

General Election

Mr Allen and Mr Kaine have participated in one debate and Virginia election is being watched closely for both this election and what it could represent in the state for the Presidential election. The election will remain a tossup until the end unless there is a major controversy that emerges.
