Democratic Incumbent Senator Debbie Stabenow did not face a primary challenger and will start out the general election race well ahead in a heavily Democratic state. On the Republican side, the party was able to eliminate all but two candidates prior to the election. The remaining candidates are former Congressman Pete Hoekstra and Judge Randy Hekman.
